Pool Resurfacing Cost Calculator
Enter your pool size and choose a finish to estimate what resurfacing will cost. The rates are what Florida contractors quote per square foot, and the finish you pick moves the price more than anything else.
How to use the pool resurfacing cost calculator
Enter the length, the width and both depths. The calculator works out the wetted surface area, which is the floor plus the four walls. That is what a resurfacing quote is priced on, not the volume.
Pick a finish. White plaster is the cheapest and lasts 7 to 10 years in Florida. Quartz aggregate lasts 12 to 15. Pebble lasts 15 to 20 and costs the most of the three. Tile is a different order of money again.
Read the range. It covers the work itself: chipping out the old surface, prep and the new finish applied. A standard 16 by 32 foot pool has about 600 square feet of surface, which is the baseline most quotes assume.
Budget for extras on top. Draining, tile and coping replacement, and repairs to the shell underneath are all separate lines and are common on an older pool.
Resurfacing needs a licensed Florida pool contractor. Filter any city list by License verified to see the companies that hold one.
How this calculator works
The calculator works out the wetted surface area of your pool, then multiplies it by the per square foot rate for the finish you chose.
Surface area is the floor plus the walls. The floor is the plan area of your shape. The walls are the perimeter multiplied by the average depth. A 16 by 32 foot pool with an average depth of 5.5 feet works out at roughly 1,040 square feet, though most quotes for that pool assume a 600 square foot baseline because the deep end wall is not full height all the way round.
The rates come from Central Florida contractor pricing: plaster at 3 to 4 dollars a square foot, quartz at 4.50 to 7 and pebble at 6 to 10. Tile starts around 25 dollars. National figures from Angi run a little higher.
The result is a planning range, not a quote. The real number depends on the state of the shell underneath, whether tile and coping are being replaced at the same time, and how easy the pool is to reach with equipment. Get three written quotes before committing.
Frequently asked questions
Pool resurfacing costs 6,000 to 15,000 dollars for most Florida residential pools, averaging around 11,000. Basic white plaster on a standard pool starts near 4,000 dollars. A premium pebble finish runs 10,000 to 18,000. The finish you choose sets the price more than the size of the pool does. Plaster lasts about 7 to 10 years in Florida, quartz 12 to 15 and pebble 15 to 20. Year-round use and hard water shorten those figures. Rough patches, stains that no longer brush out and exposed gunite are the signs a pool is due. Waiting risks structural damage that costs far more. White plaster, at 3 to 4 dollars a square foot installed, or 4,000 to 7,000 dollars for a standard pool. It is the shortest lived option at 7 to 10 years, so over 20 years quartz or pebble can work out cheaper. A plaster quote well under 3,000 dollars is a warning sign. Plaster is cement and marble dust, smooth and the cheapest. Quartz adds crushed quartz for durability and color, lasting 12 to 15 years. Pebble uses small stones for the toughest and most textured finish, lasting 15 to 20 years. Price and lifespan rise together across the three. Most jobs take one to two weeks from drain to refill. Chipping out the old surface takes a day or two, prep and repairs another few days, the new finish goes on in a day, and then the pool refills and the water is balanced over several more. Weather delays outdoor work. Yes. Resurfacing is contractor work in Florida and needs a licensed pool contractor, not a cleaning company. Ask for the license number and check it before any money changes hands. Every listing on MyPoolsGuide showing the License verified mark matches an active state record. The pool is drained and the crew is on site, so it is the moment to replace waterline tile, repair coping, fix the light niche, or swap old plumbing fittings. Doing them later means draining again. Tile and coping are the most common additions and add several thousand dollars. No. The surface has to be dry to bond, so the pool is drained, chipped out, prepped and refinished empty. In parts of Florida with a high water table the shell can float if it sits empty too long, which is one reason the work belongs with a contractor who knows the ground locally. An acid wash removes stains and a thin layer of plaster, and costs 300 to 1,500 dollars. It helps a discolored surface that is otherwise sound. If you can feel rough patches, see exposed aggregate or gunite, or find hollow spots, the surface has failed and washing it will not help. It protects value more than it adds it. A pool with a failed surface is a visible repair bill to a buyer and often comes off the offer at more than the job costs. A fresh finish removes that objection. Treat it as maintenance that keeps the pool usable and the shell sound.Frequently asked questions
