What is MyPoolsGuide?
MyPoolsGuide is a free guide to pool service and pool cleaning companies across Tampa Bay, FL. Every listed company carries a Rating built from customer reviews, at most one city badge, the License verified mark when the state record supports it, and the company's own phone number and website. You compare, you pick, you call the company directly. MyPoolsGuide takes no fee and holds no lead.
Start with what your pool needs: weekly cleaning, a green pool brought back, a salt system, a pump that has stopped. Add your ZIP code and MyPoolsGuide shows the companies that fit, best Rating first. Every listing shows the services the company offers, where it goes, its hours, and a number you can call right now.
Nothing sits between you and the company. There is no quote form, no callback queue and no fee on either side. Find your city and start comparing.
Why does MyPoolsGuide exist?
Because finding a good pool company is harder than it should be. Search results are full of names, and none of them tell you who actually shows up every week, who holds a Florida license for repair work, or who serves your street. Homeowners end up calling around and hoping. MyPoolsGuide was built so the checking is done before you pick up the phone.
Pool cleaning is a subscription. The company you choose comes back every week, so the question that matters is not whether the first visit was good but whether they keep turning up. Customer reviews answer that, if someone reads all of them. MyPoolsGuide does.
Licensing is the second problem. Routine cleaning needs no state license in Florida, but pump, heater and resurfacing work does, and few homeowners know how to check. Every listing on MyPoolsGuide carries the License verified mark when an active state license matches the company, so you know before you call.
Who runs MyPoolsGuide?
MyPoolsGuide is owned and run by Matthew Metcalfe, who lives in St. Petersburg, FL and owns and operates a local pool cleaning business there. He started MyPoolsGuide in 2026 after watching homeowners struggle to tell one pool company from another. The listings are kept current all year, and the standings in every city are reviewed by hand before the annual awards.
Matthew Metcalfe
Founder, MyPoolsGuide
I run a pool cleaning business in St. Petersburg, and homeowners tell me the same story again and again. The last company stopped showing up. Nobody answered the phone. They were never sure who was actually going to arrive.
Finding a pool company should not be that hard. The information exists, in customer reviews, in the state license record, in what a company says it does and where. It just was not in one place, read carefully, and laid out so you could compare.
That is what MyPoolsGuide is for. Tell it what your pool needs and where you are, and it shows you the companies that fit, rated the same way whether or not they have ever heard of us. Then you call them yourself.
How does MyPoolsGuide make money?
Right now it does not. MyPoolsGuide is free for homeowners and free for every pool company listed on it. It sells no leads, takes no bookings and charges nothing for a listing, a Rating or a badge. In time, a small number of clearly marked featured listings will sit at the top of city pages, the way an ad sits above search results. They will never change the rankings beneath them.
When featured listings arrive, they will be labeled as featured, there will be only a few, and they will sit apart from the ranked list. The list itself, the Rating on every listing, the two city badges and the License verified mark stay exactly as the data sets them.
A company that pays for a featured spot gets a featured spot. It does not get a better Rating, a badge, or a higher place in the list. That line is the whole reason the Rating is worth anything, and it will not move.
How does MyPoolsGuide decide which pool companies are the best?
By reading what customers actually say, then checking the state license record. Every company gets a Rating built from four things: how satisfied customers are, how reliably the company shows up, whether it holds a Florida pool contractor license, and how consistent its work is over time. The company with the highest Rating in each city is Best Rated. The one customers describe as most dependable is Our Pick.
Companies are listed whether or not they know MyPoolsGuide exists. Most have never spoken to us, and that is deliberate: a list that only holds companies who opted in is an advertising channel, not a rating. A company without enough customer reviews yet shows Newly listed in place of a number. It is not a judgment, and every company starts there.
One per city. It goes to the company with the highest Rating among the companies that work out of that city, and it changes hands whenever the data says it should.
The one badge that does not follow the Rating. It goes to the company whose customers most consistently describe it as dependable: booked, arrived, came back next week.
An active Florida pool contractor license matches the company. Routine cleaning needs no license in Florida, but pump, heater and resurfacing work does.
How do the annual awards work?
Once a year, MyPoolsGuide reviews the standings in every city it covers and issues a dated Best in {City} award to the ten highest rated companies in each. It is earned on the same Rating as everything else on the site, so it cannot be bought and it cannot be requested. Winners are free to display the award on their own website and marketing, and the next year they have to earn it again.
The Rating and the two badges are live all year and can change hands at any refresh. The award fixes a company's standing for the year it was earned. The full explanation of the Rating, the badges and the award is on the methodology page.
What can a pool company change about its listing?
A company that claims its listing can update its description, logo, services, service area, hours, phone number, website and email, and every change is live within minutes. It cannot change its Rating, its badges, its license record, its reviews or its place on any page. Those come from the data and are the same for every company, claimed or not.
Listing is free and claiming takes a minute: sign-in is by a link sent to your email, and when that email matches your website's domain the claim is approved on the spot. List your company or claim an existing listing.
Where does MyPoolsGuide cover?
Ten cities across Tampa Bay, FL: Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Brandon, Riverview, Palm Harbor, Sarasota, Bradenton and New Port Richey. Each city page lists the pool service and pool cleaning companies that work there, best Rating first, with the companies still short of the review minimum grouped as Newly listed at the end. More of Florida follows once Tampa Bay is right.
How do I get in touch?
Use the contact page. A person reads every message and replies by email, usually within a day. Pool company owners can change most of their own listing details after signing in, and the methodology page answers most questions about the Rating and the badges before you need to ask. To report a wrong detail on a listing, include the company name and the page address.

Questions about MyPoolsGuide
10 questionsIs MyPoolsGuide free to use?
Yes. MyPoolsGuide is free for homeowners and free for every pool company listed on it. There is no fee to compare companies, no fee to call one and no fee for a company to be listed, rated or badged. Any featured listing MyPoolsGuide offers in future will be labeled as one and will sit apart from the ranked list.
Who owns MyPoolsGuide?
MyPoolsGuide is owned and run by Matthew Metcalfe, who lives in St. Petersburg, FL and owns and operates a local pool cleaning business there. He started MyPoolsGuide in 2026. Questions about the site, a listing or the Rating go through the contact page, and a person replies by email, usually within a day.
Is MyPoolsGuide affiliated with any pool company?
The owner of MyPoolsGuide also runs a pool cleaning business in St. Petersburg, FL. That company gets no special treatment. Every listing is rated by the same system, and the Rating, the badges and the order of every page cannot be changed by anyone, including the owner. Companies are listed whether or not they know MyPoolsGuide exists.
Can a pool company pay to be listed or to rank higher?
No. Listing is free, and nothing about a company's Rating, its badges, its license record or its place in any ranked list is for sale. A company that claims its listing can correct its own contact details and describe its services. It cannot touch its Rating, and it cannot buy a better position in the list.
What is a featured listing on MyPoolsGuide?
A featured listing is a paid placement MyPoolsGuide plans to offer later: a small number of clearly labeled listings at the top of a city page, the way an ad sits above search results. It does not change the company's Rating, its badges or the ranked list beneath it. None exist today, and the site currently earns nothing.
Does MyPoolsGuide sell leads or take bookings?
No. MyPoolsGuide does not sell leads, take bookings, schedule work or hold a quote form between you and a company. Every listing shows the company's own phone number and website, and you contact the company directly. The agreement for any work is between you and the company you call, and MyPoolsGuide takes no part in it.
Why is a pool company not listed on MyPoolsGuide?
A company is listed once more than one public source confirms it cleans or services pools from a Tampa Bay address. Supply stores, pool builders that do not service pools, and plumbing or solar contractors carrying a secondary pool category are left out. A company that belongs on the site can apply through the list your company page for free.
How do I report a wrong detail on a listing?
Use the contact page and include the company name and the page address. A person reads every message and replies by email, usually within a day. A company owner can also fix most details directly: claim the listing, sign in, and the description, services, service area, hours, phone, website and email update within minutes of saving.
Does MyPoolsGuide cover cities outside Tampa Bay?
Not yet. MyPoolsGuide covers ten Tampa Bay cities: Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Brandon, Riverview, Palm Harbor, Sarasota, Bradenton and New Port Richey. Companies that serve towns nearby appear on the city pages they reach. More of Florida follows once the Tampa Bay guide is exactly right, and the same rules will apply everywhere.
What does Newly listed mean?
Newly listed means the company does not yet have enough customer reviews for MyPoolsGuide to publish a Rating with confidence. It is not a judgment on quality, and every company starts there. Newly listed companies sit together at the end of each city list and pick up a Rating automatically once enough reviews sit behind them.
